Podium for Rendell and first points for Maguire

We were greeted with fine weather on both Friday and Saturday at Brands Hatch for the final round of the season. Ed was once again joined by young Scot Ross Maguire who would be making his Brands Hatch debut. Ed Rendell was impressive right from the start with second place in free practice one, qualified fourth and finished on the podium in third place. Ross qualified well while learning a new track and came home twelfth in the first race getting his name on the championship points table with four hard earned points.

Sunday was a disaster for many after heavy rain made the track very slippy. Ed had done everything right with new tyres and soft suspension settings but was caught out when he slid off on the warm up lap at very slow speed but the rules say you are not allowed to continue. Ross seemed to be enjoying the conditions and was up to sixth place when he too along with half the field slid off on the same corner as Ed. Thanks to Chris Pearce for the photos.

Some of our long-term sponsors have already pledged their support and we thank them for that and look forward to hearing from both new and old sponsors who are able to come on board for the 2019 season. Please help if you can to give the team and our riders the chance to represent Britain at the highest level. To contact the team call 07762 428210 or click here to email Peter or visit the team website. We would welcome a major backer that would allow us to upgrade to the latest machinery which could be decorated in colours and design of their choice.

There are eighteen races in our championship each year with most of them televised both in the UK, Europe and worldwide. British Superbike meetings have crowds up to 30,000 people on the day plus TV and media coverage. The switch over to Moto3 bikes has been expensive and the costs are still ongoing but we are determined to stay at the front and would welcome some additional support Every little bit will really help and go to make the bikes the best we can for the 2019 season.

Thank you to all our sponsors, supporters and friends especially the hard working team members Bassy and Gill, Alan Green, Colin Swinney, Paul Chaundy, Paul Willcox, Lucy Birkenhead and Steven Banks and Ray Rendell. Massive thanks to Ed Rendell for always giving his best and showing he is one of the most talented and bravest riders out there enduring broken bones and pain but he never let that stop him.

Rendell storms to 7th from 27th on the grid

Mixed weather on most days at Oulton Park caused major upsets for many riders and teams and Ed Rendell and his Banks Racing team were left in 27th place on the grid for the main Sunday race after a major engine failure during the Saturday race. Grid positions for the Sunday race are determined by lap times in the Saturday race. Ed was in the fastest top five on Saturday when the engine failed, the race started wet but after Ed retired quickly dried out leaving him at the back of the grid. The track for Sunday was again wet then a drying track so overtaking was going to be difficult with only a narrow dry line but Ed made many moves in the first few laps and battled on to finish seventh. The result could have been even better but the race was shortened to ten laps leaving less time to make his way through.

The engine failure was catastrophic and leaves the team unsure of finishing the season so we would welcome any sponsorship or donations to help us finish the season off.

Some of our long-term sponsors have already pledged their support and we thank them for that and look forward to hearing from both new and old sponsors who are able to come on board for the 2018/2019 seasons. Round six of the British Motostar Championship was held at one of Ed':s favourite tracks and Friday mornings free practice one saw Ed in great form and he finished the session in third place and only seven one hundredths of a second off of pole position.: After a few changes to the setup Ed headed out for free practice two.: After just a few laps Ed was fastest in the session but then for no obvious reason Ed came off at the high speed first corner suffering damage to both the bike and Ed.: While Ed':s crew chief Mark Bassy Bass got on with fixing the bike Alan Green quickly got on with down loading the data but the lap Ed crashed on was no different to his two previous laps so we had no explanation except bad luck why he crashed.: Ed suffered broken bones in his right hand and had to sit the remainder of the weekend out but is on track for a quick return to the next round at Silverstone.: Ed was absolutely gutted to miss one of his favourite meetings but is now focussed on the next two events at Silverstone and Oulton Park.: Sam Laffins joined the team at Cadwell while his own bike was being repaired and was a pleasure to work with and quick to learn from Ed and the rest of the team.:

Thank you to Mark Hill for the great picture of Ed wrestling the Banks Racing FTR KTM over the Cadwell Mountain.:

Ed Rendell, still sore from two crashes at Knockhill twelve days earlier returned to the British Motostar Championship at Brands Hatch where he made progress over the weekend finishing with a strong fifth place to better his seventh on the Saturday and was able to hold on to fifth place in the championship. All this on a bike that was not at its best either as the two crashes at the previous round had meant normal race preparation was put on hold because many of the damaged parts had to be repaired or manufactured in house. The FTR KTM Ed races was one of a small batch made for the Moto3 World Championship and chassis parts are in short supply. More repairs have been carried out this week in preparation to the teams next meeting at the fast and bumpy Thruxton where Ed will be looking continue his run of podium finishes there. Many thanks to Neil Pidduck for the photo of Ed.

While Knockhill did not go to plan for Ed the team were pleased to have thirteen year old Ross Maguire on board the teams Banks Racing/MotoEngineering Honda Moto3. With no testing what so ever Ross improved all weekend putting in lap times that would have put him in the top seven last year. We hope to have Ross out again in the near future so he can learn some more tracks ready for a Motostar season in 2019.

Two more podium challenging rides from Ed Rendell

Ed Rendell gave the massive crowd and TV audiences around the world two stunning performances that kept us all on the tips of our toes as he again put in two podium challenging rides. The racing was so close with Ed just 0.3 of a second from a podium finish in race one and 0.5 of a second off in race two.Things may have been different if Ed had not struck trouble in qualifying when a quick shifter failure stopped the bike out on track leaving him down the starting grid in thirteenth place. A front row start was on the cards after finishing second and fourth in the free practice sessions held on the Friday but better to have the quickshifter failure in qualifying than in one of the races. The championship table is tight with Ed in 5th place only a few points from the lead.

Promising start with two podium challenging rides

Ed Rendell riding the Banks Racing FTR KTM powered Moto3 put on a great show at the first round of the Hel Motostar British Championships held on the short Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. Qualifying on the front row and making good starts in both races meant he was in a position to challenge for podiums. He missed out on one podium by just one second and in the other race he missed the podium by just five one hundredths of a second proving that the winter changes have worked and also the message is clear that the 2018 championship is going to be closer than ever and hopefully one of the best classes to watch and be involved in this year. We had some new seat units made up during the winter months and you can see how easy it is now for Ed to get tucked in and when budget allows we have other modifications in the pipeline.

Some of our long-term sponsors have already pledged their support and we thank them for that and look forward to hearing from both new and old sponsors who are able to come on board for the 2018 season. Successful test for Ed Rendell and Banks Racing

The team travelled through the night to Donington Park last week for their first test of the year. The weather was kind and team rider Ed Rendell clocked up 90 miles in six sessions on the track. First part of the day was all about running in the one engine we have managed to have fully refreshed and this went without any problems. The afternoon sessions gave the team a busy time making quite big changes to the chassis setup of the bike and by the end of the day Ed was putting in good enough lap times that would have put him on the podium at Donington last year. All while running the same set of tyres all day that were used in 2017. With one session left to run both rider and team were happy and decided to miss the last session as temperatures had started to drop. All in all a very positive test that bodes well for podiums and wins this season with a realistic chance of taking the title.

We are now faced with the task of finding the budget to finish the rebuild of our second engine. Both engines had failures last year that added an extra £2000 per engine to the repair bill that we do not have in our current budget and if anyone would like to donate something towards this extra cost please get in touch. There is plenty room on our bikes and awning boards for extra advertising and decals so it would be great to see some extra names on the boards and bikes this year.

The team will be racing at all nine rounds of the televised British Motostar Championship visiting such famous circuits as Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Knockhill plus just about every other major circuit in the United Kingdom. Each round will host two races providing us with an eighteen race championship.

Some of our long-term sponsors have already pledged their support and we thank them for that and look forward to hearing from both new and old sponsors who are able to come on board for the 2018 season. Opportunities to join Banks Racing in 2018

Why not keep up with the team on Facebook for the very latest up to date news and what happens

After five very successful seasons where Team Banks Racing finished runner up in the 2013 Motostar British Championship, were championship winners in 2014, finished third in 2015 and fourth in 2016 we are looking for sponsorship to help keep us on track and be in a position to challenge for top honours again in 2018. We will be running two Moto3 machines, one is the Honda NSF250 for the standard section of the championship and the other is an ex Grand Prix KTM 250 piloted by Ed Rendell who remains with the team for this season. We are in talks with several young riders for the standard championship so more news on that to follow. The change over from the Grand Prix two-stroke bikes to Moto3 machines has been costly and with the class being so new upgrades are needed each year but we now have the machinery to win and are desperate for additional backing in any shape or form to allow us to compete at the front. We have opportunities available from running the bikes in corporate colours right down to having a sticker on the bikes and mentions and links on our website, motorcycle press and local newspapers.

Both bikes need full engine refresh kits and we have just found out from our engine builder that both our KTM engines need new cylinder heads. This was unexpected and has added an extra £4000 to the bill that we do not have in our current budget and if anyone would like to donate something towards this extra cost please get in touch. There is plenty room on our bikes and awning boards for extra advertising and decals so it would be great to see some extra names on the boards and bikes this year.
